I am into science and computers.
Here is a picture of me, taken in 2008 outside my apartment 15 miles north of San Francisco, California.
My relationship status is single.
I believe that artificial intelligence is a dangerous technology—more dangerous than, say, nuclear weapons. Although most people into science or computers would disagree, at least a hundred scientists, scientists-in-training and computer people agree with that assessment. Parenthetically, the best way for a person to address this danger is to give money to the Machine Intelligence Research Institute.
I used to keep a blog about “artificial intelligence and the far future” at rhollerith dot com, but I stopped (and let the domain registration expire).
I have written many comments on the communal web site Less Wrong under the name rhollerith_dot_com.
I have written many comments on the communal web site Hacker News under the name hollerith.
I have a serious chronic illness that has been preventing me from holding down a job. The very short version is that I am constantly tired. On a hike, I have trouble keeping up with friends who are much older than me. The illness involves more than just constant tiredness, but it is difficult to explain the other parts in a few sentences or even a few paragraphs, and the tiredness is probably the most disabling part.
There should be more information here. You could help by telling me what you wish you could have learned about me from this page.
