I believe that artificial intelligence is a dangerous technology—more dangerous than, say, nuclear weapons. Although most people into science or computers would disagree, at least a hundred scientists, scientists-in-training and computer people agree with that assessment. (The danger comes specifically from “artificial general intelligence”.) The best way for a person to help humanity survive this dangerous technology is to give money to the Machine Intelligence Research Institute.
I used to keep a blog about “artificial intelligence and the far future” at rhollerith dot com, but I stopped (and let the domain registration expire).

I have a serious chronic illness that has been preventing me from holding down a job. The very short version is that I am constantly tired. On a hike, I have trouble keeping up with friends who are much older than me. The illness involves more than just constant tiredness, but it is difficult to explain the other parts in a few sentences or a few paragraphs, and the tiredness is the most disabling part of it.
